40 Movies Everyone Needs to See

Some people have a favorite movie. Others, like myself, can’t pick just one. There are some movies that everyone needs to see at least once whether you’re a connoisseur of the big-screen or not.

One of my goals in life is to watch every Best Picture winner since the first Academy Awards in 1927. I’m a little over a quarter of the way through over 80 years of the best of film.

I compiled a list of 40 movies (in no particular order) from all genres and decades that I think are the best of the best. It was difficult to whittle the list down to a whopping 40, but not every good movie is a “must-see.” Which movies would you add to this list?

    1. I agree. It's hard to pick just one!

I really liked your list and I think it's awesome that you are trying to watch all of the Best Picture winners since the first Academy Awards. Such a cool idea!

    2. Any list this long is going to bring up some heated arguments- I agree with most of the picks. I'm a huge Hunter Thompson fan and thought they did a horrible job with the movie. I heard HT himself refused to watch it but I've also heard a lot of critics that initially panned it have reconsidered.
High Fidelty was a great speak for a generation sort of flick, I was curious to see if it made it or not. I was also hoping to see "Trading Places" alas it didn't make the cut.
